Astorga to Rabanal del Camino Day 23

It is so very dark in the morning ; the sun does not rise until almost 8:30!  This is a not very good picture of a small church on the way out of town.

These photos do not do the sunrise justice.

Ruins of some sort.
As we got closer to Rabanal, we walk through the woods on a rough path. There is a wire fence along the trail. Pilgrims have made crosses out of sticks and twigs and woven them into the fence. I didnt do this but I did pick one up that had fallen and put it back.
Scenery. Mountains in the distance.
Rabanal -- a wonderful little mountain town.

This is the albergue where Michele, Sarah, Cindy and I are staying. There is a courtyard with a bar/ cafe through which we walk to the dorm. We washed our clothes outside in sinks and put them to dry there as well--all in the courtyard.
The church run by the monks from the small monastery in town. We went to vespers which was chanted. There were programs written in Latin and English (or other languages) so we could follow along and know what the prayers actually said. It was wonderful. There is a mass, but it's not until 9:30 pm and I will be (am) in bed.

This is St. James.
Entrance to the church.

View from town.
Sarah enjoying her hamburger. I then had one for dinner. Not quite as good as at home, but a pretty darn good substitute.
