Ponferrada to Villafranca. Day 26

I Well , the day began at 12:50 am when Michele woke us to tell us there was a man outside our window reaching in and pushing up the blind. Needless to say, regardless of the fact that there were bars on the window, we closed and locked the window. We found out this morning that a fellow pilgrim had her phone stolen from the window ledge in her room.

We got a bit of a late start this morning and took our time today stopping frequently along the way. There was too much pavement walking until the end when we took the long cut and added an extra kilometer to walk through vineyards on dirt roads. It was much better. It is harvest time so there were many people picking grapes.

An acrostic poem in the albergue.
Wine tasting with tapas. A for 1,50 euro each. Delicious , but buying a bottle was out of the question--weighs too much.
Picking grapes.

Lunch - bought bread and made sandwiches.
Church along the way.

This is an old grape crusher.
Stream goes under this house.

Vineyards

We were so happy to see this --our destination.

Walking into town.
Sarah is a bit tired... Almost there. Just over the bridge.

After massages, dinner out. Amazing white bean soup. Cindy, Sarah, Michele, and Gary. Cindy has been walking from Le Puy. She's from Ottawa. Gary is a true Irishman though he lives in California. His wife stayed home to ride horses.
The white bean soup. Brian, this was amazing. Maybe we can recreate it.

The most amazing place to stay. Built into the side of a hill/rock. Clean sheet and pillowcase on each bed each day. A young couple own and run it. Her mom is a massage therapist who can tell you things about yourself just by massaging your feet--no lie!!!
